Old Town coffee shop is the living room of Propulsion Events, a place where words line up with actions. Making that happen requires striving to implement and use simple guidelines. We choose to act now and think about the future: The best way to plan for this is to make real decisions that have actions that can be realized in the present. We think long term for future generations. Thinking long term requires big and ambitious thinking while not letting the details pass us by as we make decisions. Making great socially sourced and roasted coffee is not an easy task. Working to find women in the coffee supply stream and empower them while being inclusive to all people is an important goal that we try to achieve.
A company with majority female ownership empowers women in the entire supply stream. We feel that being original, is being authentic. So we continually do things differently to obtain different results than the status quo. One of the ways we feel the need to move differently is with true Social Responsibility
From the smallest grains of sand a mountain can be built: We walk step by step to build great things for the future of the world around us. Healthy Food Options are important while using local products make up a consciousness decision that makes the difference in the healthy food options we offer. Sourcing our honey directly from our honey bees is a step that we take to ensure the future of our world.
The Best Investment is in people: Education and professional growth are basic tools to contribute to finalizing every project and business. We partner with PEAR barista school, where not only we can invest in people, but also we are able to help provide employee placement services school graduates. Real life experience is something that cannot be taught in a classroom. Working with artists and NGOs to get time and gallery space for those people that might not get the opportunity elsewhere, is something we focus our Art Promotion Team on. Art holds a special space in our hearts : as a home is not a home without art we will adorn our walls with artistic creations to make our space feel like home.
We give back, to get back our community. Conscious of the needs around us we are actively engaged in helping social projects that help uplift our community. Local Partners including Mercy Corps Northwest, Street Roots, Central City Concern, and more help us keep sight of those needs. In 2019 alone we were able to host a poetry reading for the team at Street Roots as well as give a $500.00 cash donation. We gave a donation of art supplies to a local children’s art school for children in need and we strive to give at any opportunity that is given to us.
A world for all: We have a promise to minimize harm to the environment because we know that this is the only way to give a good future to the world’s next generation. We have started a cup exchange program as well new ecological innovation as it becomes available. We constantly looking at ways to reduce our waste caused by coffee sales.
Public Teaching and cultural improvement helps us transmit knowledge: Knowledge is a gift, because of that, we have a responsibility to give it away. Teaching people about coffee and its production helps others understand the value in sustainable coffee practices. We host weekly cuppings as well as advanced coffee training to baristas as well as anyone interested in furthering their knowledge. Inviting people of influence to transmit their knowledge in culture and important areas of expertise in our community is crucial to our commitment to transmit knowledge in our circle of influence.
Without change, growth is not possible, without growth, we do not prosper: to move forward we must have the capacity to change and overcome adversity. Old Town Coffee is ever-changing and ready for changes in the area around them. Remaining true to our roots while being ever vigilant for changes that require innovation to make an ever better and stronger company. We develop procedures to solve the biggest problems. The biggest problems can be overcome with planning. We will always be on our toes for making a plan to keep challenging ourselves to be better in all we do. We would invite you to join us in using these philosophy’s. We invite you to support local business and stand for justice and the future with Old Town Coffee, Inc.
